Important Notes About the Documents

  • Document acquisitions typically take 10 – 15 days, rushed services can reduce this to 2-3 days, however vital records & apostille timelines vary by state & organization, to which we have no control over the government processing times.
  • All documents in a foreign language must be translated into Spanish.
  • All documents from abroad must be authenticated for its use in Costa Rica, in some countries it’s known as a Document apostille, while other countries refer to this as a Document legalization. In the states, the apostille is issued by the state where the document was originally issued, for example if your birth certificate is from Ohio, the apostle will be issued by the state of Ohio. In the case of background checks such as the FBI criminal history report, the apostille is issued by the Federal government.
  • The birth certificates and the background checks (and any other documents from abroad) must be issued within six months prior to filing the application. Therefore, the original birth certificate issued when one was born will not be valid for immigration purposes in Costa Rica.
  • Additional documents may apply if any of the applicants have changed names. The Immigration Department needs documentation to evidence that the person on the passport is the same person on the birth certificate. Hence, if the applicant has changed names, documents (ie, divorce or name change court documents) explaining such name changes apply. These documents need to be apostilled/legalized and translated into Spanish.
  • $250 – Other Misc. Document or Certificate to validate Name Change(s). A new copy of a divorce Certificate, name change documents from Court or other relevant documents with Apostille or Nationalization.
  • Expedited Service Option is an additional $200 for each document – Both document acquisition and apostles will be expedited.
  • Investigative Work is an additional $150 per hour. In the event that requisite information isn’t available for pulling vital records, we can conduct an investigative process to attempt to locate missing details and records.
  • Consular Registration $100. Registration with your country’s consulate is required, we will complete this for our clients.

Six passport-size photographs ($50) – We will take and print photos at our office in Ojochal
